Using the Image Uploader
COOLSite
Admin areas such as Upload Files, the editor's Insert/edit image tool,
etc... use a fantastic feature called Image Uploader. It has the
ability to drap-n-drop multiple images, add entire folders of images,
and much more. In order to use this feature it requires a browser
add-on for it to work.
NOTE: The "Insert/edit image" tool on the editor toolbar comes up in a Pop-Up, so please make sure that your browser allows Pop-Ups. See below for instructions on how to do so in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Firefox:
Allowing Pop-Ups:
1. Click on Tools > Options and check the box for "Block pop-up windows".
2. Click on the "Exceptions..." button and add both http://www.colony1.net and http://coolsiteadmin1.colony1.net individually, and click on "Allow" when done.
3. Click on the "Close" button and then "OK".
Installing Image Uploader:
Firefox will prompt for a Java
Applet to be installed. If you are having problems using the Image Uploader, then make sure you
have Java enabled. To verify this, go to "Tools > Options" and
click on the "Content" button at the top. Next, make sure "Enable
Java" is selected and click "OK" to exit. In addition, please ensure
that you are using the latest version of the Java Platform. You can
download the latest version at http://www.java.com.
Internet Explorer:
Allowing Pop-Ups:
1. Click on Tools > Pop-up Blocker > Pop-up Blocker Settings (Note: If you cannot click on the Pop-up Blocker Settings option, then click on the option to "Turn On Pop-up Blocker" first).
2. Add both http://www.colony1.net and http://coolsiteadmin1.colony1.net individually, and click on "Allow" when done.
3. Click on the "Close" button.
Installing Image Uploader:
Internet Explorer will prompt for an ActiveX
control to be installed. When you visit the Image Uploader for the
first time you will receive a prompt to install. Once you accept and
complete the install you can then continue using the feature.
We are currently aware of an issue where the update
will prompt to take place (within a pop-up) when trying to upload a new
image using the "Insert/edit image" icon on the editor toolbar, when working with Free Form page types, but there is no "Information Bar"
from which you can select to install the required ActiveX Control. If
you should come across this issue, then please click on "Upload Files"
from the menu on the left in your admin area and you will be prompted
to install the Image Uploader software / add-on. Proceed with the
install accordingly.
If you are not prompted to install
this add-on, then please proceed with the following steps below. Also
note that these instructions are specific for Internet Explorer 7, but
may be very similar (if not the same) in previous versions of Internet
Explorer.
1. Go to the "
Tools" menu above and select "
Internet Options"
2. Next, click on the "
Programs" tab
3. Click on the "
Manage add-ons" button under the 'Manage add-ons' section
4. Then, in the "
Show:" drop-down box, select "
Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer"
5. From the list of add-ons, select "
Image Uploader Control" (Publisher: Aurigma Inc.) and click on the "
Delete" button within the 'Delete ActiveX" section
6. Click "
OK" and then "
OK" again
7. Finally, close all open Internet Explorer windows and then re-open the Internet Explorer application again
8. Login to your admin area and click on "
Upload Files" from the menu on the left
9. At this point, you will either be prompted to install the Image Uploader software / add-on
OR
you will see a yellow Information bar at the top of the browser.
Proceed with the install accordingly and note that in order to install
the add-on via the Information bar, you will need to right-click on the
bar and choose Install
10. Once the add-on has been installed,
you can now try uploading/inserting a new image on any Free Form page
on your site, and you should be able to do so just fine now
NOTE:
- If you have trouble installing this program, then
make sure that ActiveX controls are enabled in your browser. To do so,
go to "Tools > Internet Options" in your browser and click on the
"Security" tab. Next, click on the "Custom level..." button. Scroll
down a bit to where it says "ActiveX controls and plug-ins". Make sure
that you have it Enabled for where it says "Allow previously unused
ActiveX controls to run without prompt" and "Run ActiveX controls and
plug-ins". Click "OK" to close out this window, and "OK" again to close
out the next. Try clicking on "Upload New Image" again and install the
ActiveX controls.
