How to setup PayPal PRO as a payment processor
Want to replace your existing payment processor/gateway with PayPal? Here's how:

Enabling PayPal PRO as a payment processor enables you to accept regular credit card transactions through your PayPal account. A PayPal PRO account would replace any other payment processor (ie: Authorize.net, Quick Commerce Pro, PayMeNow, and LinkPoint).

Keep in mind that these instructions do not explain how to setup regular PayPal to PayPal transactions. To configure your admin so that customers can submit payments from their own PayPal accounts to your PayPal account, follow the instructions in the following article:

*********You can setup PayPal to PayPal or PayPal PRO (credit card transactions) OR BOTH.*********

How to setup PayPal PRO as a payment processor/gateway

Step 1) Upgrade to a business account

First you will need to upgrade your PayPal account to a business account. Only business accounts are allowed to take advantage of PayPal PRO. If your PayPal account is already upgraded to a business account, then skip to Step 2. Otherwise, follow these instructions:

  • Go to www.paypal.com and login to your PayPal account.
  • In the left hand navigation menu under “Enhance Your Account”, click on “Upgrade Account”.
  • At the bottom of the next page, click the “Upgrade Now” button.
  • On the next page, select “Business account” and then click the “Continue” button.
Step 2) Upgrade to a PRO account

Now that you have upgraded your PayPal account to a Business account, you must make one final upgrade to a PRO account.
  • Log into your PayPal account at www.paypal.com, if you haven't already done so.
  • Click "My Account" at the top of the page.
  • Click "Overview" at the top of the page (below "My Account").
  • In the middle of the page you will see 3 steps that need to be completed. Complete all 3 of these steps in order to upgrade to a PRO account.
  • It may take PayPal around 2 days to approve of your upgrade. PayPal will notify you via email once they have reviewed your information and upgraded your account.

Step 3) Configure account in admin

Once your account is setup as a Business account, your next step is to configure the account in your COOL Site Admin.

  • Stay logged into your PayPal account on www.paypal.com. Click on “My Account” at the top of the page. Then click on “Profile”, located in the top right hand side of the page.
  • Click “API Access” under “Account Information”.
  • Click “Request API Credentials”.
  • PayPal will provide you with a set of information. It is important that you save these three items:
    • API Username
    • API Password
    • Signature

Copy and paste these three items somewhere (preferably a notepad file). We will need them later. You can always view this information later on by going back to “My Account > Profile > API Access”, and then clicking on “View or Remove Credentials”.

  • Now that you have the three items mentioned above, go ahead and login to your COOL Site Admin. This is the site you login to whenever you work on your website.
  • Once logged in to your admin, click on “Configuration > Payment Processor > Real Time”.
  • Click the bubble next to “PayPal” to select PayPal as your payment processor.
  • Copy and paste your “API Username” into the corresponding field. This is the first of the three items of information you should have copied from www.paypal.com.
  • Copy and paste your “API Password” into the corresponding field. This is the second of the three items of information you should have copied from www.paypal.com.
  • Copy and paste your “Signature” into the corresponding field. This is the third and last of the three items of information you should have copied from www.paypal.com. Be especially careful when copying and pasting this piece of information, since it is very excessive in length.
  • Click the checkbox next to “Active” (under PayPal).
  • Make sure all of the fields under PayPal are filled out with the correct information. It is very important that this information is correct, otherwise you will not be able to accept credit card payments from customers online.
  • After you have confirmed that everything is setup correctly, click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page.

That’s it, you’re done! If you have any questions with this setup process, feel free to give us a call at 954-341-7031 or email us at coolsitesupport@colony1.net.
